Three children were hospitalized after an illegal immigrant with pending criminal charges crashed into multiple vehicles while fleeing federal immigration agents in Newark, New Jersey, sparking a heated confrontation between local officials and federal law enforcement.
The Incident and Arrests
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents attempted to stop Christian Oswaldo Guevara-Guerra, a Salvadoran national in the country illegally, during a targeted operation. According to the Department of Homeland Security, an immigration judge ordered Guevara-Guerra’s removal in October 2017. When agents tried conducting a traffic stop, the suspect accelerated and rammed his vehicle into multiple cars. Two fifteen-year-olds and one twelve-year-old required hospital treatment following the collisions. Guevara-Guerra, who faces charges for receiving stolen property, was arrested and also received medical care for injuries sustained during the incident.
Mayor’s Sharp Criticism of Federal Agents
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka issued a strongly worded statement condemning ICE for conducting the operation in his city. The Democratic mayor argued federal authorities should follow local laws regarding vehicle pursuits and avoid enforcement actions in densely populated areas. Baraka specifically criticized the timing, noting roads were still being cleared from a recent snowstorm. He emphasized that Newark police were not involved in the pursuit. The mayor called the incident part of a nationwide pattern of reckless federal enforcement, stating federal agents endangered innocent residents while pursuing their target.
Broader Immigration Enforcement Debate
The Newark incident reflects escalating tensions between local Democratic officials and federal immigration enforcement under the Trump administration’s expanded deportation efforts. Multiple left-wing mayors across the country have pledged non-cooperation with ICE operations in their jurisdictions. Opposition to federal immigration enforcement intensified following recent confrontations in Minneapolis that resulted in civilian casualties. Mayor Baraka joins other Democratic city leaders refusing to provide local resources or support for federal agents working to remove individuals with criminal records from American communities. The clash highlights fundamental disagreements about immigration enforcement authority and the balance between federal law and local autonomy in sanctuary cities nationwide.

Ice is doing everyhing witin the Law. Santuary cities are made by democrats to break the law and to still votes and jobs from the American people. These Blue state governor’s are violating a Federal Law that has been the Law for decades. They are doing this because it is actually helping to save America and the poeple that live in this Nation. The State of the Union adress that you saw on Tuesday is what the Democrats are all about. When the mid-terms come in November. Will you choose the Republicans who Stand for the Constitution and for the American People or will you stand for Democrats who are wanting to do like Joe Biden did for 4 years in Destroying this Nation. They almost succeeded and Trump stepped in and turned it around. Do the right thing and vote for the party that took an oath to protect our Nation from foriegn and domestic powers.
Amen – well said!

This crash was not ICE fault. The person should have stop. Not sure if he had kids in car but if he did that’s even worse and he should had thought about them. They dont they worry about themselves. I pray the children are ok .
Wouldn’t be nice if we could build walls around the sanctuary cities and let them deal with the mess they have caused.
