Sacramento police officers rescued a child dangling from a freeway overpass guardrail on May 6, pulling the sobbing juvenile to safety in a heart-stopping rescue captured on dashcam footage near Interstate 80 and Northgate Boulevard.
Desperate Rescue Above Busy Interstate
Officers responded to 911 calls from community members who reported someone leaning dangerously over the overpass railing. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered a child hanging from the guardrail with only one leg wrapped around the metal barrier while the rest of the body dangled over the active freeway lanes below. The dashcam video shows the precarious position that left the child suspended above heavy traffic on one of Sacramento’s busiest highways.

The footage captures officers rushing toward the edge as the child’s cries echo in the background. Police grabbed hold of the juvenile and pulled the child back over the ledge to safety while repeatedly saying, “We got you,” during the tense moments. The entire rescue unfolded within seconds as officers worked to secure the child and remove the immediate danger of a fall onto the interstate below.
Immediate Aftermath and Investigation
After bringing the child away from the overpass edge, officers attempted to calm the juvenile while asking repeated questions about injuries and what circumstances led to the dangerous situation. The child continued crying but did not respond to their questions in the released footage. Officers then escorted the juvenile to a patrol vehicle for further assistance and evaluation. The Sacramento Police Department did not release additional information about the child’s condition, identity, or the events that preceded the incident.
Community Alert Prevented Tragedy
The Sacramento Police Department credited alert community members whose 911 calls enabled the rapid response that likely saved the child’s life. The department issued a public statement thanking both civilians who reported the emergency and the dispatchers who coordinated the swift police arrival. “Thank you to the community members who reported this critical situation, and to the dispatchers and officers whose quick response helped prevent a tragedy,” the department stated when releasing the dashcam footage on social media. The incident highlights the importance of public vigilance and immediate reporting of dangerous situations involving vulnerable individuals.

I am NOT sure WHY this article or news report was even published here without the details. It leaves the readers with little or no answers and no age of the child or anything…. Happy the child was rescued but there should have been MORE details about this or why let us know about it at all?????
Yeah, I was wondering about that too. Usually they get the kid’s name, age, neighborhood, and find out why the kid was on that overpass to begin with, as well as searching for and contacting the parents. I guess somebody needed more eyeballs on their page, and cooking up a fake child in danger rescued story was the perfect gambit.
You cannot release the names or faces of juveniles without the parents permission which is the way it should be. It would have just made a bad situation worse.
Was the child a victim of some person chaining him to the bridge?
There must be some explanation that can be revealed.
