Mother’s Heartbreak Before Birthday
Chauncia Lashell Meekins died just weeks before her 33rd birthday after a customer opened fire during an argument at the Bellefontaine Road location on Wednesday night around 11:30 p.m. St. Louis County police responded to find two workers shot, with a male employee also injured. Meekins’ mother, Tamela Washington, had been planning her daughter’s favorite birthday meal for April 23. Instead, she now faces funeral arrangements.
Washington described her daughter as loving, caring, and always willing to help others. Meekins had worked at the restaurant for only three to four months without any previous incidents and enjoyed going to work each day. The grieving mother pleaded for the shooter to surrender, seeking justice for her daughter, who died simply trying to do her job serving customers.
Rising Violence Culture Alarms Community Leaders
James Clark with the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis said the incident reflects a disturbing trend where violence becomes increasingly accepted and expected in the metropolitan area. While community outreach programs, including Urban Therapy and gun violence de-escalation networks, continue operating, Clark emphasized that the culture around violence changes rapidly. He suggested businesses incorporate de-escalation training into standard customer service programs to address growing workplace safety concerns.

Police continue investigating the shooting as an active case. The suspect fled after firing through the drive-thru window during the confrontation. There are certain crimes that deserve the death penalty ASAP. Anyone who would shoot this lady would shoot anyone without remorse. I am an old guy who has seen the worst of the world. I have seen people killed for tennis shoes, a single beer and even a mistaken glance towards someone who was not even involved with a problem. Society will end the life of a rabid dog. We should show the same compassion to sick people who commit these killings. No. we would rather lock them up for 50 years.
