American sailors deployed aboard Navy ships in the Middle East are rationing food and sharing disturbing photographs of inadequate meals as supply chain failures leave service members without proper sustenance or care packages from home.
Supply Crisis Leaves Troops Without Basic Provisions
Personnel stationed on the USS Tripoli and USS Abraham Lincoln face severe food shortages, according to USA Today reports. The United States Postal Service suspended mail delivery indefinitely to 27 military ZIP codes because of ongoing conflict, cutting off care packages that typically supplement military rations. Photographs circulating online show meager servings including two tortillas with small portions of unidentifiable meat, alongside what service members describe as barely edible mystery protein resembling leather or boot soles.
Fresh food remains unavailable as supply problems persist on deployed vessels. The images reveal conditions far below acceptable standards for troops serving overseas. One photograph shows a brown, flat piece of what sailors cannot identify, prompting widespread speculation across social media about whether the substance qualifies as food. Service members resort to sharing these images publicly to draw attention to deteriorating conditions that military leadership has apparently failed to address through proper channels.
Public Outrage Over Treatment Of Military Personnel
Americans responding to the photographs expressed anger over the stark contrast between treatment of service members and government spending elsewhere. Critics pointed out recent reports about Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s lobster expenditures and elaborate events held stateside while deployed troops struggle with basic nutrition. The viral images sparked debate about priorities within military budgeting and whether adequate resources reach those serving in combat zones versus administrative positions.
What This Means For Military Readiness
Inadequate nutrition directly impacts troop morale, health, and operational effectiveness during extended deployments. The suspension of mail service compounds isolation for service members already facing dangerous conditions far from home. These revelations raise serious questions about logistical planning and whether military leadership properly supports personnel deployed in active conflict zones. The photographs document systemic failures in the supply chain that should provide American troops with meals meeting basic nutritional and quality standards during their service protecting national interests abroad.

Reprehensible!!!
Debunked long ago fake news.
Did anyone bother to fact check this diatribe? Appears to be hearsay.
I doubt the veracity of this article. In a worst case scenario, Navy troops might have to eat MREs for an extended period of time. MREs while not preferable for 3 meals per day, also provide over 3K calories per day which is needed when troops are in high operational tempo situations.
Usually, at least 1 fresh, hot meal is provided per day when MREs are used extensively.
Not ideal! Recently MRE were shown to contain multiple toxins in high amounts.
What this amounts to, if it is true, is piss poor planning and heads need to roll.
Total FAKE NEWS!!
There is no excuse for not providing needed supplies to our troops!
Someone needs to be looking into this situation and heads should roll!
And you believe that. These vessels leave shore with provisions to last for close to a year. And are you the same people who constantly call our fighting military murderers. Pick a side.
Kay:
The readers are being gaslighted. Moreover, we have plenty of huge air transport planes., to deliver the food
Our family farmers and enormous, agri businesses, grow plenty of food.
The U.S and Israel have sufficient helicopters to deliver or drop the food on our warships.
My conclusion, is that this report is phony.
Right ON
This is a LIE. Please Don’t believe Nonsense Like This. Really, Don’t Be Gullible.
This has already been debunked as fake news! Liberal propaganda. smh.
This from someone who served 25 years in the U.S. Navy and of those 17 years were spent afloat. Additionally I spent 130 days straight at sea and NEVER once did I go without food or was served inadequate food stuffs. I find this to be TOTALLY DISHONEST.
Debunked long ago fake news. another liberal outlet.
Instead of opinion it would be nice to be presented fact, instead of addressing what the “supply chain” issues are the why or whys there is an issue, when I was active duty our food supply’s took a hit because of back to back typhoons, and once because of 7 feet of snow, instead the independent issue of the postal service halting delivery to military FPO zip codes is mentioned when the postal service is not involved in the supply chain, but feel free to confuse the issue. The postal service does not and never has “delivered” to deployed locations anyway, that delivery is done using military assets but this article is purporting to say that the postal service actually delivers to military vessels of combat locations, what happened to journalistic integrity? Biased and crappy opinion laden pieces appear to be the norm.
Investigate, if story is true or not. If not, then those spreading lies need to be held accountable. If true then situation must be corrected immediately.
AHHHH, if these photos are indeed read, then most DOGS and CATS here in the USA are eating MORE and BETTER than our service members. This should make all Americans question just what in the world is actually going on… I do believe that supply shortages could cause a problem, but hopefully something is being done about it. Any person that was considering joining the military would certainly be having negative thoughts now after reading and seeing this…
My deceased husband served in the US NAVY as well as the US COAST GUARD for 23.5 yrs. of his life. He was a Vietnam veteran, and he served 9 months in the Mediterranean as well. I can’t imagine his food tray being so empty and with food that can’t even be classified as “REAL FOOD”… Must be fake Frankenstein foods, highly processed and NOT fit for a human to ingest… IF this is all true then I can understand WHY they would always be hungry… They have to have and need proper nutrition in order to do their jobs… Is anyone investigating these things, seriously?????
This is hyperbole. Of all the years I spent at sea never once did I miss a meal. There were times we ran out of fresh milk but had powdered for backup. I was ordered to the LY Spear for a NATO exercise. The personnel aboard her got 4 hot meals a day and allowed eating in civilian clothes. The FPO Always got our mail to us, sometimes delayed but always got it.
Ridiculous report.
TYPO: IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE “IF THESE PHOTOS ARE INDEED REAL !!! REAL, not read… SORRY.
Media is not to be trusted. They also say Iran is winning.
PURE BS!! Just more liberal media propaganda!! Just another FAKE STORY from some pot-stirring liberal zealot that has obviously never served aboard a U.S. NAVY warship let alone a King of the Seas Nuclear Aircraft Carrier (CVN) like the USS Abraham Lincoln. Believe you me, those sailors are as well-fed as they want to be.
Now, the USPS delivery system can be an issue at times in certain situations and locations; however, that’s more about letters from home versus “care packages” to supplement their nutritional needs!! What a load of CRAP!!
I spent my six years in the U.S. Navy aboard a conventional aircraft carrier (CV-61) with multiple West-Pac deployments — including extended line-periods in the Indian Ocean — and we NEVER suffered from any food shortages or “inadequate nutrition!” Just a load of PURE CRAP!!
This sorry “journalist” should be ashamed of his/her story … I SURE AM!!
Anyone that believes that the US Postal Service Delivers Food Supplies to these bases around the World and out in the Ocean need some serious Psychological Help.
Beri-beri, kwashiokor, anemia and rickets are rampant, they say!
I seriously doubt these reports are accurate and probably staged by disgruntled personnel. Although I am a 20 year active duty retiree from the Air Force, I never experienced a lack of food. Often on deployment military members make sacrifices but that is the exception not the rule. My father was active duty Navy during the Korean War and my grandson is currently active duty Navy station on the east coast – Thank God. Nether ever complained there was a lack of food while aboard ship. It is obvious to any Veterans that this story is a political hit job written by people that do not know how the Navy functions!!
37 year Navy Veteran here with lots of deployments on different ships, this article is total BS!
Complete and total LIES!!! Coming from the same people that complained about “Steak & Lobster”
I have family over there this is total crap.
Why did the USPS stop mail delivery? We got mail once a week with every supply plane when I was at a remote site in Pakistan
21 years in the Navy. Yes we had questionable rations once in a while. Usually when waiting for ship to ship resupply. (BTW? The fried brown meat was laughingly called Fried Filet of Gorilla Heart) Life was not always Unicorns and Pink Stars. But, the men and women I served with would never have whined like this.
