Surveillance footage captured a horrific scene in Harlem Thursday night as a speeding driver dragged two cyclists down a busy street, creating a shower of sparks before crashing into a police cruiser. The violent incident killed one victim and left four others injured.
Deadly Rampage on West 125th Street
A 49-year-old driver in a red Hyundai Tucson barreled down West 125th Street near Frederick Douglass Boulevard around 8:05 p.m. Thursday, trapping two cyclists and possibly a bicycle under the vehicle’s hood. Witnesses described terrifying moments as pedestrians jumped out of the way while the driver kept accelerating. The unidentified motorist showed no signs of stopping despite dragging the victims beneath the car, according to police sources and eyewitness accounts.
A witness identified only by the initials C.B., who was visiting from Minnesota for a funeral, described the chaotic scene. The witness saw two men lying face down in a bus lane, unable to move after being struck and dragged by the vehicle. One cyclist was launched into the air during the impact, while the other two were pinned under the car until it collided with an NYPD cruiser, according to C.B.’s account.
Victims’ Conditions and Aftermath
The two cyclists, ages 33 and 28, sustained critical injuries in the crash. A nearby worker described finding one victim with severe head bleeding while the other appeared unconscious. Both men were immediately transported to area hospitals in critical condition. The 28-year-old cyclist was later pronounced dead, according to authorities. The driver eventually stopped only after slamming into a parked police vehicle and colliding with a tractor-trailer truck.
Investigation Continues
Police arrested the driver at the scene. The suspect sustained no injuries during the multi-vehicle crash. Witnesses reported the driver appeared intoxicated, describing reckless speeding inconsistent with normal traffic patterns. Authorities have not yet announced formal charges against the 49-year-old suspect. The incident raises serious questions about public safety and driver accountability on busy New York City streets, particularly during evening hours when pedestrian and cyclist traffic remains heavy in commercial districts like Harlem.

I wonder if it was an illegal alien? This is so sad and senseless. Thoughts and prayers for a full recovery to the surviving cyclists and their families. RIP to the 28 year victim and condolences to his grieving family. May God be with you.
