A 17-year-old competitor inflicted multiple stab wounds on three horses at a prestigious barrel racing championship in Las Vegas, leaving the animals traumatized and unable to compete while facing a dozen felony charges for animal cruelty.
Attack During Championship Event
Las Vegas Metro Police arrested the teenage girl on May 30, 2026, after receiving reports at approximately 2:07 a.m. that horses had been injured at the South Point Arena & Equestrian Center. Officers discovered three horses had been deliberately wounded with a sharp object during the National Barrel Horse Association Professional’s Choice Las Vegas Super Show. One horse sustained six separate stab wounds. The suspect, who had legitimate access to the barn as an event competitor, allegedly used a knife to attack the animals while they awaited competition.
Detectives tracked the teenager to a nearby hotel and took her into custody without resistance. She was transported to Clark County Juvenile Hall and booked on 12 counts of willful and malicious torture of animals and three counts of felony destruction of private property exceeding five thousand dollars. The horses required stitches and antibiotics for their injuries, which veterinarians determined were serious but not life-threatening.
Recovery and Investigation
The National Barrel Horse Association confirmed the incident in an official statement, describing it as an isolated occurrence involving the mistreatment of equine athletes by an event competitor. The organization worked immediately with South Point Hotel & Casino Security and Metro Police to address the situation. Association officials emphasized that the individual was removed from the premises and placed in custody, with no ongoing threat to other animals or participants at the multi-day championship event held from May 29 through May 31.
While the wounded horses are recovering physically, they remain traumatized by the attack and have been sidelined from competition indefinitely. The NBHA requested respect and consideration for all parties involved during the investigation and directed further inquiries to their official channels. The Las Vegas Metro Police Department’s Animal Cruelty Section continues to investigate the motivation behind the violent acts.
Championship Event Disrupted
The attack occurred during one of barrel racing’s premier championship events, where competitors and their horses travel from across the country to participate. The South Point Arena & Equestrian Center regularly hosts major equestrian competitions, making the breach of trust particularly concerning for the barrel racing community. Event organizers confirmed that security protocols were reviewed following the incident to prevent future occurrences at the venue’s equestrian facilities.

It’s a shame a child could be so evil. Apparently, she has no moral compass and feels she is above the other competitors. As a horse lover myself, I cannot imagine inflicting such pain on such a beautiful and loyal animal.
Um seems this happened in figure skating few years back to the top competitor except it was a pipe used to take her out of competition. Could this be the case here?
Her “”attitude” came from somewhere. What kind of family life did she have?? What was her upbringing?? What type of education was she getting?? Evil develops in a person who is not raised with a moral compass and has no ethical boundaries; when winning is everything. Win at all cost. Children do these things out of desperation; to please a coach, a parent. It doesn’t just happen.
