A wedding celebration in an upscale Ohio banquet facility turned into a violent brawl Friday night when uninvited brothers crashed the reception and attacked guests with a butter knife, forcing dozens of panicked attendees to flee into the parking lot.

Violence Erupts at Wedding Reception

The chaos unfolded at 8:50 p.m. on Friday at La Centre Banquet Facility in Westlake, Ohio, located 14 miles west of Cleveland. Raed Mahmoud Sulaiman, 46, grabbed a butter knife from a table setting and charged at guests while music continued playing in the banquet hall. Video footage released by police shows terrified wedding guests scrambling for safety as Sulaiman wielded the knife. One attendee threw a chair at the armed suspect in an attempt to stop the attack.

When police arrived, they found approximately 40 frantic people in the parking lot. Multiple witnesses reported seeing bloodied victims inside the venue. One victim was still adjusting his clothing from the assault when officers arrived on scene. Sulaiman allegedly discarded the butter knife before police could secure the weapon as evidence. He now faces charges of assault, inducing panic, and tampering with evidence.

Family Feud Blamed for Wedding Violence

Westlake Police Captain Jerry Vogel revealed that two families with longstanding hostilities were responsible for ruining the celebration. The exact nature of their conflict remains unclear, but authorities confirmed the families have a history of mutual antagonism. Two additional men joined Sulaiman in disrupting the peaceful ceremony. Ali Wahdan, 47, violated a court-ordered protection that covered family members attending the wedding. Abdallah Wahdan, 48, threatened multiple guests and faces aggravated menacing charges.

Captain Vogel described the suspects as bad apples who brought their grudges to someone else’s special day. The families apparently set aside their differences temporarily for the wedding, but old wounds resurfaced quickly once they gathered under one roof. The protection order against Ali Wahdan suggests previous legal interventions failed to prevent the conflict from escalating.
