Four teenagers stole a luxury Mercedes G-Wagon and led police on an hours-long chase through New Jersey before crashing head-on into an innocent couple’s sedan, killing both victims instantly in a tragedy that has devastated a local community.
Beloved Grandmother and Partner Killed
Alice Stilwell Holt, 67, and her longtime partner Robert Barr Jr., 54, both of Egg Harbor Township, died around 7:30 a.m. on August 22 near Route 50 and Third Street in Mays Landing. The couple had been together for over 20 years after Holt’s husband passed away. Friends and family described them as inseparable partners who spent their days cooking together, visiting farmers markets, gardening, and caring for their two cats. A family friend organized a fundraiser noting the unimaginable tragedy has left loved ones in deep grief.
Surveillance footage captured the horrific moment when the stolen black 2024 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon slammed into the victims’ Hyundai sedan, sending the smaller vehicle careening into a nearby gas station. The violent impact killed both occupants while the teenage occupants of the luxury SUV walked away with minor injuries.
Four-Hour Crime Spree Ends in Tragedy
Prosecutors allege that Nayshaun Brown, 18, of Atlantic City, and three juvenile accomplices stole the Mercedes G-Wagon around 3:40 a.m. Saturday morning. Officers first spotted the stolen vehicle speeding through nearby Longport, where it blew past a local officer attempting a traffic stop. Hamilton Township police later located the luxury SUV and pursued it around 7:45 a.m., but lost visual contact just minutes before the fatal collision occurred. The teenagers attempted to flee on foot after the crash but authorities quickly apprehended all four suspects at the scene.
Charges Filed Against Suspects
Brown and the three juveniles face conspiracy charges involving aggravated assault, joyriding, eluding police, and receiving stolen property. Brown faces an additional charge of employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime. He remains held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility while two juveniles are in custody. A Superior Court judge controversially released the fourth juvenile suspect Sunday morning.
