Gunman PLEADS Not Guilty After Rihanna Home Shooting

A Florida woman pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges after allegedly firing approximately 20 bullets from an AR-15 style rifle at the Beverly Hills area home of music superstar Rihanna, where the singer, her partner A$AP Rocky, and their three young children were present during the March 8 attack.

Armed Assault on Celebrity Family

Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 35, of Orlando, entered her plea Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court through Deputy Public Defender Derek Ray Dillman. Prosecutors charged Ortiz with 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three counts of shooting at an occupied vehicle or dwelling. She faces life in prison if convicted on all charges. Authorities say Ortiz drove up to the property and sprayed bullets into the tall exterior wall while Rihanna and Rocky were together in an Airstream trailer on the grounds. The singer’s mother, their three children, and multiple staff members were inside the main house at the time.

Arrest and Evidence

Police arrested Ortiz hours after the shooting. Officers found her alone in her vehicle with the rifle, additional ammunition, and a wig she intended to use as a disguise, according to Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott. Public records reveal Ortiz has worked as a licensed speech pathologist for more than a decade. Judge Theresa McGonigle denied her attorney’s request to reduce bail from $1.9 million to $70,000, citing flight risk and danger to the community. Prosecutors argued that the deliberate shooting into occupied homes could have easily resulted in multiple deaths. The three shooting charges correspond to hits on Rihanna’s main house, her trailer, and a neighboring residence.

Investigation Continues

District Attorney Nathan Hochman declined to discuss where bullets landed, potential motives, or any connection between Ortiz and the nine-time Grammy Award winner. His office is investigating social media posts Ortiz made in the days before the attack. The 10 assault counts cover Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, their family members, two staff members, and two people in the neighboring house. Ortiz waived her right to a speedy preliminary hearing, where evidence will be presented to determine if the case proceeds to trial. The state attorney general requested and received an order preventing Ortiz from practicing speech pathology in California during the legal proceedings.
