TSA Workers WALK OFF As Airports Face Chaos

More than 300 Transportation Security Administration officers quit their jobs as a Democratic blockade on Department of Homeland Security funding left airport security workers unpaid for over a month, creating massive security lines and travel chaos across the nation.

Shutdown Combines With Severe Weather

Over 3,600 flights were canceled on Monday, and another 6,800 were delayed as severe weather collided with the ongoing funding crisis. Dangerous storms brought blizzard conditions to the Midwest and severe thunderstorms to the East Coast, affecting approximately 200 million Americans. Major airports in Atlanta, Charlotte, and Houston experienced ground stops and extensive delays. Meanwhile, unpaid TSA workers continued screening passengers at airports nationwide, with staffing shortages creating security wait times requiring travelers to arrive two and a half to three hours before domestic flights.

The funding lapse began on February 13 after Democrats blocked passage of DHS appropriations following the fatal shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good in Minneapolis by federal immigration agents. Senate Democrats demanded that immigration agents wear body cameras, display identification during enforcement actions, and ban masks during operations. TSA screeners, most earning under $50,000 annually, missed their first full paycheck earlier this month.

Political Battle Intensifies

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer placed blame squarely on Democrats. “The Democrat DHS shutdown has TSA officers working without pay, with 300 plus already quitting the job entirely,” he wrote. “Staffing shortages are causing mind-blowing wait times at airport security, and Democrats are 100 percent to blame.” House Speaker Mike Johnson accused Democrats of “holding TSA agents hostage and putting American lives at risk” to “protect criminal illegal aliens.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer countered that Democrats simply wanted Immigration and Customs Enforcement to “behave like police departments” across the country. Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman broke with his party, telling Fox News that shutting down the government “was always the wrong thing” and would not produce meaningful ICE reforms. Economists estimate the shutdown has already caused at least $2.5 billion in economic losses, with damage expected to worsen significantly if the impasse continues.

What This Means

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed Monday morning that multiple major airports remained affected by both weather and staffing issues. With no resolution in sight between Republicans and Democrats, travelers face continued disruptions even after severe weather clears. The standoff represents a test of whether either party will compromise on immigration enforcement policies while essential security workers go without pay and Americans struggle to travel.

  1. Every time a government shutdown happens, it’s the American public who suffers. The senators need to realize this. A good remedy would be to have them use commercial airports instead of private ones and have them go through the airports the same way the rest of us do. That might make them go back and work towards a solution that would solve the issue and end this stupid shutdown.

  2. Democrats have proven they don’t care about America as they prioritize illegals over American citizens.
I agree the dems should use airports like everyone else. They should also pay the halted wages during the shutdown out of their own wages.

  3. Come election time, beginning with this fall, and any other upcoming elections, if a candidate has a “D” by their name, no matter what position it is, even for dog catcher, “Just WALK ON BY” and put a stop to all the nonsense caused by Democrats.

  4. These democrats dont care about the American people. Their hate and harassment of the actual President makes them blind and deaf.

  5. Any worker who is not getting paid should stop working until such time as the paychecks arrive again. I have already written to Congress suggesting that they pass legislation that prohibits Congress from getting paid during government shutdowns, and allows taxpaying citizens to deduct all the money they make during a shutdown from their taxable income. The last shutdown of 43 days was roughly 16% of a standard work year, so how would Congress react if the IRS brings in 16% less money because of that shutdown?
