A 32-year-old Oklahoma man armed with a shovel attempted to dig his way into a county jail to reach his incarcerated girlfriend, only to end up arrested and booked into the same facility where she was being held.
Caught in the Act at Detention Center
Deputies with the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jake Minervini-Blue on Friday, June 12, 2026, after spotting him digging near the south wall of the Oklahoma County Detention Center in Oklahoma City. A deputy en route to the facility noticed Minervini-Blue actively excavating near the perimeter and immediately questioned him about his activities. When confronted, he initially admitted his girlfriend was inside the jail and he was trying to reach her.
Minervini-Blue quickly changed his story when pressed by authorities, claiming instead that he was simply attempting to plant a flower near the jail wall. Deputies ran a background check that revealed an active out-of-state warrant for his arrest. Officers took him into custody on the spot and transported him inside the very jail he had been trying to breach from the outside.
Fire-Starting Tool Discovered During Booking
During standard booking procedures, detention officers discovered Minervini-Blue was carrying a ferro rod, a specialized tool commonly used to start fires in outdoor survival situations. The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office processed him on charges related to the outstanding warrant as well as the attempted unauthorized entry into the secure facility. Authorities noted in their official release that Minervini-Blue had successfully been reunited with his girlfriend, though now both were behind bars at the detention center.
The incident caused no damage to the facility infrastructure and did not disrupt normal jail operations. No injuries were reported to staff, inmates, or Minervini-Blue himself during the attempted breach or subsequent arrest. The Oklahoma County Detention Center houses both male and female inmates and processes hundreds of bookings weekly, making perimeter security a constant priority for staff.
Security Vigilance Prevents Breach
The sheriff’s office has not released additional information about the girlfriend’s incarceration status, the charges she faces, or the nature of Minervini-Blue’s out-of-state warrant. This unusual case highlights the ongoing security challenges jail facilities face and the importance of deputy vigilance around detention center perimeters. The Oklahoma County Detention Center maintains regular patrols of its grounds specifically to prevent unauthorized access attempts, though few involve such brazen methods as tunneling with a shovel in broad daylight.
