A 26-year-old Georgia man was fatally shot on Interstate 285 after confronting a driver who deliberately clipped his father’s truck and caused a dangerous spin across multiple lanes of traffic. The suspect fled the scene with the victim’s phone, destroying evidence before his arrest weeks later on murder charges.

Highway Confrontation Turns Deadly

Tyler Sieber was driving behind his father Anton on I-285 West near Buford Highway on July 23 around 10:28 p.m. when another vehicle suddenly clipped Anton’s truck. The collision sent the truck into a complete spin across the busy highway. Tyler witnessed the crash and immediately pursued the suspect’s vehicle, eventually rear-ending it to force a stop.

Both drivers exited their vehicles and began arguing on the roadway. Without warning, the suspect pulled a firearm and shot Tyler multiple times before fleeing the scene. Officers arrived to find Tyler suffering from gunshot wounds. He died from his injuries shortly after.

Evidence Destroyed, Suspect Captured

According to Anton Sieber, the shooter stole his son’s cellphone immediately after the shooting, broke it apart, and scattered the pieces across the area to eliminate photographic evidence. The deliberate destruction of evidence added tampering charges to an already extensive criminal case. Authorities arrested 45-year-old Raul Antonio Escobar Paz through a joint operation involving the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals.

Paz faces eight serious charges including malice murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery, hit and run, tampering with evidence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony. He remains held without bond at DeKalb County Jail. His prior felony conviction raises questions about how he obtained the murder weapon.

Family Grieves Courageous Son

Anton Sieber recalled the terrifying moments during the initial crash, describing cars and trucks flying across lanes as two semi-trucks stopped just feet from his front bumper. He called his survival miraculous. Tyler’s mother Christa Sieber said the week following the shooting has been a relentless nightmare, with constant reminders of their son everywhere.

Christa described Tyler as brave and courageous, explaining he stepped in because he could not tolerate watching someone harm his father. She expressed disbelief that anyone could commit such violence, suggesting the killer must have lived a horrible life to show such callous disregard.
