An 84-year-old Florida woman fired a revolver into the ground while her neighbor mowed his lawn, admitting she wanted to frighten him over noise complaints while she tried to sleep.
Gunfire Over Grass Cutting
Charlene Davis faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm on residential property following the incident in Milton last Thursday evening. According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, the confrontation occurred around 8:15 p.m. in the 3200 block of Atlas Drive. The neighbor told deputies he was cutting his grass when he heard a gunshot, then turned to see Davis holding a revolver pointed downward.
Davis admitted to deputies that she fired her Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver into the ground. The arrest report states she wanted to scare her neighbors because of an ongoing dispute about noise while she attempted to rest. A Ring doorbell camera captured the entire incident, showing Davis leaving her residence and discharging one round before returning inside.

The video footage recorded the neighbor’s response to the gunfire. According to the arrest report, he can be heard asking Davis what she was doing. Davis allegedly responded that she was trying to communicate that he was waking them up, then added a warning to watch out. No physical injuries resulted from the incident. Davis posted $5,500 bond and was released from the Santa Rosa County Jail following her arrest.

Just because he might stay up later- he should realize older seniors DO go to bed early. It might be she’s asked multiple times & he might not have considered her situation. Not saying she handled the situation well, but I can certainly understand her side of the situation- nothing more annoying than being asleep or trying to sleep & the neighbor is mowing their yard. Past dinner time is too late to be mowing & annoying your neighbors- you got all day to get it done.

Should check local bylaws. Here during the week it’s 7am-9pm and weekend 9am-9pm for doing things like grass cutting, home Reno’s etc.
The heat could have been to extreme during the day. Common sense people.
indifference to other people’s needs and making your own time more important to yourself regardless of other people. Hire someone if you have to as a kid I mowed lawns just to have any money and kids need work during the day not when people need their sleep that man needs his A kicked and she needs to be commended for her tolerance for putting up with it as long as she did.
The probable dementia patient should not possess a firearm. If the neighbor was within noise bylaws/curfew, no problem.
i don`t mow on Sundays. Our little acreage takes 4 hr. to mow. Front,back,side adjoining neighbors,& we call it the field.Or 1 could call it a large back yard. We live on w.end of a small village. Pop. about 100 to 150. We have frontage on 2 sides. Church across road on back side. Besides, we go to Church ourselves.
Okay, if she has to go to bed at 8, add 8 hours, she then would be getting up at 4 am. Why? She doesn’t have a job to go to. I’m a senior myself, but I’m a night owl and don’t get to bed until the wee hours and get up late morning-early afternoon. I think they still make reel lawnmowers, they make very little noise. Maybe she should get earplugs or a white noise machine. Firing a gun, even into the ground, is going way too far. Oh, and SH, not all seniors have dementia. We may be forgetful at times, but it doesn’t make us grab our guns and shoot at people for making too much noise.
Shooting a bullet into the ground is NOT shooting at someone ! The man with the lawn mower was inconsiderate of other peoples rest times & mowing the lawn at 8:00pm is a bit late ! Now in Florida, there are NOISE ORDINANCES to be followed. The reporter of this story failed too mention if the noise ordinance law was in effect at that time of 8:15pm. Poor choice of implements of destruction, I would have used a 20 pound sledge hammer on the lawn mower machine & busted the spark plug off inside the machine ! Then we’d go to small claims court & i’d place a counter-suit for disturbing my sleep & causing me mental anguish ! The inconsiderate lawn mower man is lucky too still be breathing…
I had a similar case just a few weeks ago…My older brother passed away from cancer, he was 82yo, his son is in jail for breaking & entering & got a burglary charge & got 11/29. His mom had a heart attacks 3 days ago & the jail-bird’s sister spent everything she had on her mom’s final expenses. The sister is 17yo & isn’t old enough to hold land title & deed, so she called me over in Switzerland. I own a private trans-atlantic jet, so I flew back over to take care of the real estate property, in fixing it up to rent it out. The home is paid-off & the young sister didn’t want to take a lien against the property. Just keep it in the family for a residual income. The character across the street has an old Snapper riding mower w/a straight pipe exhaust, NO MUFFLER & he’s gotta mow the grass at 7:00am Sunday morning. I went to have a talk with the man, he was an ex-marine jarhead. I’m U.S. Army retired, i’m 72yo. He told me to go FAWK myself. I went 2 the Hobby Lobby & bought an RC Monster Truck, RC controller & I have 2 JBL Xtreme 4 blu-tooth speakers. I zip-tied 1 speaker to the RC monster truck & I downloaded the sound of barking dogs on my laptop & @ 2:30am I run the RC truck up into his yard & let the dogs bark at max volume right under his bedroom window. When he comes outside. I shut the speaker off & move the RC unit away from his house, but the dogs in the neighborhood are busy barking. He watches TV & I have a universal remote & I click Channel Scan when he’s watching a football game. I hacked into his satellite dish & I change the direction of his dish network. This my job in the U.S. Army was psyops, so that d00d is NOT going too find peace of mind while i’m here revamping my brother’s house !
