A Florida woman faces child abuse charges after bodycam footage captured her allegedly storming onto a youth football field and kicking a juvenile player during a weekend game in Fort Myers.
Chaos Erupts at Pop Warner Game
Renee Lambert was taken into custody Saturday at Brooks Park following what authorities described as a chaotic scene at a Pop Warner football game. Deputies working security responded after a fight broke out between players on the field. Video reviewed by investigators showed Lambert running onto the playing surface and kicking a juvenile player, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. She now faces charges of child abuse without great bodily harm and resisting an officer.
Lambert claimed a child struck her with a helmet, which she said prompted her actions. Investigators stated this claim was not supported by the evidence they reviewed. The arrest highlighted growing concerns about adult behavior at youth sporting events, where parents and spectators occasionally cross boundaries meant to protect young athletes.
Tense Bodycam Confrontation
The sheriff’s office released bodycam footage showing a profanity-laced confrontation as deputies attempted to detain Lambert. The video captures her questioning why officers were targeting her rather than addressing what she perceived as an attack on herself. When an officer stated he was upset about an adult attacking a child, Lambert resisted detention commands. She repeatedly told officers to remove their hands from her and demanded they bring player number nine to the scene before deputies successfully placed her in handcuffs.
Pattern of Parental Misconduct
The incident represents the latest example of adults facing criminal charges for behavior at children’s events in Florida. Youth sports organizations nationwide have implemented stricter codes of conduct for spectators after repeated incidents of violence and inappropriate behavior. Authorities emphasized that adults bear responsibility for maintaining composure regardless of on-field disputes between young players. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office did not provide additional comment on the case beyond the information released with the bodycam footage.
