The incident unfolded Wednesday evening, June 24, shortly before 8:30 p.m. outside Park 101 in Carlsbad, California, where hundreds had gathered to watch the Mexico versus Czechia soccer match. Video footage captured the shocking moment when security guard David Marquez, 42, of San Marcos, deployed his stun gun against a shirtless man standing near the venue entrance. The victim immediately collapsed to the pavement in pain as bystanders witnessed the violent encounter.
According to the Carlsbad Police Department, officers responded to reports of an altercation at the bar. During their investigation, authorities determined that Marquez allegedly deployed the stun gun during the confrontation. The victim received initial evaluation from Carlsbad Fire Department personnel before being transported to a local hospital trauma center for treatment. That is absolutely horrific! That security guard needs to spend some serious jail time. I don’t care what the victim did, you don’t fire a weapon into a face. NOBODY deserves that.
Poor guy. I hope his eyes weren’t affected by the stun gun. That’s a mega lawsuit in the making. It is very vague about what exactly started the confrontation to begin with. It looks like the man and the guard were just talking to each other but it didn’t show the man acting aggressive. Besides, there was a counter between them. Even if he needed to be suppressed, that was way too extreme.
