Jeff Metcalf told Anthony he had failed his parents, himself, and society, stating he did not belong in the community. He confronted Anthony for being unable to make eye contact while having stabbed his son in the heart. The father spoke of being robbed of his son’s future and all the moments they would never share.

Murder penalty should always be stiff!
Blatant murder like this should have only ONE punishment – a rope! Our judicial system has become too soft on criminals. 35 years sentence with possible parole at 17-18 year for good behavior is absolutely ridiculous.
Just because he may be eligible for parole does not mean he will be released. Murderers come up for parole all the time and are denied, which for him would be good. Deny him all the way through his life. Just because he’s given 35 years, it doesn’t mean he will be released then either.

I didn’t know good behavior is optionable. Do the time for your crime and if you choose to engage in bad behavior while doing time add time to their sentence. Obviously if someone misbehaves in prison they will misbehave on the outside and are not ready to be released out into the community and live amongst those in a law abiding civil society.

Karmelo got what he deserved? Actually he didn’t. He ENDED Austin’s life, but his will continue abet in prison for between 17 1/2 to 35 years. So he does have a future, Austin doesn’t.

All the guy did was ask Carmelo Anthony to leave the tent and go back to his tent for his team. It has not a damn thing to do with race. Carmelo Anthony can have a future but the life of an innocent person was taken by the hands of a coward thug! Carmelo Anthony should be sentenced to life in prison if not the death penalty. Seventeen years old is old enough to know murder is wrong.
Tragic situation. But putting feelings and prejudices aside is a hard thing. Nevertheless, some of our larger cities have released people with known felonies and this loophole has people confused. Justice and grace. How do we balance them? The process has played out for now and we need some order.
To add insult to this horrible attack, the mother of the killer spent all of the money raised to get her son a good lawyer on herself: a home inside a gated community, a new cadillac car, a nose job, and a bucket of chicken. I kid you not, this really happened. So the fake outrage should be towards her!

Race has nothing to do with this crime. A young felon, concealing a knife, got into a minor dispute at a sporting event. The bad guy pulled the knife and killed the innocent, unarmed, victim.

Years ago if you got a guilty verdict for murder you were taken right up elevator to roof and hung none of this business u get out after a few years murder is murder. Once they had 5 brothers on trial for murder, guilty verdict, took them up immediately to roof of courthouse and hung spectator welcome. Plus they were white! Murder is murder! Should bring that back, that would stop a lot of this murder!
That just shows how backward the justice system was in Texas. How many people have been convicted and sentenced only to find out years later they were innocent of the crime and released from prison?
Should have been executed immediately following conviction. That goes for anyone who violently takes the life of another, except for self defense of course.

I respect Mr.Metcalf’s request to make this about right and wrong – Not Race. I question the killers motive and it’s completely based on race. A black kid stabs a white kid to death in front of many witnesses, out in the open, at a public event in broad daylight and what – he thought he could get away with it because of his skin color? No one in the main stream media has yet to reveal any motive for this killing (that I have seen) and their reasoning (if you want to refer to their reporting as having any thought process) is probably the fact that this black kid has been so indoctrinated, he felt justified in taking a white life of a competitor.
The ‘Progressive Socialist’ portion of our society, backed by main stream media and idealistic billionaires continually seems to find ways to defend and justify some of the most brutal crimes imaginable especially if the victims are white! Here is sadly another example of how our society failed both these young men. The Anthony family has certainly improved their financial status using the money collected for Karmelo’s defense. And now taxpayers will pay for his defense lawyer plus at least 17 years in prison. Anthony’s parents had to pay for his funeral on their own. Justice would have been a rope and the perps family paying the funeral expenses.
