A four-month-old infant was ejected from a vehicle during a high-speed police chase in Arkansas that reached 100 miles per hour, with three other children under six years old trapped inside as the driver fled from a routine traffic stop.
Chase Ends in Devastating Crash
Arkansas State Police dash camera footage captured the May incident in Camden when officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver accelerated instead of pulling over, leading police on a dangerous pursuit through residential areas. After several minutes of high-speed driving, the suspect lost control of the vehicle, struck a light pole, and flipped the car completely over.
Officers discovered the four-month-old lying in grass among downed electrical wires from the collision. Body camera footage shows an officer quickly securing the infant and placing the child in the back of a patrol car. Three additional children, all under age six, were then removed from the overturned vehicle and placed in police custody. All four children suffered only minor injuries and were transported to Ouachita County Medical Center for evaluation.
Multiple Charges Filed Against Driver
Police identified the driver as 28-year-old Tyrice Fletcher of El Dorado, Arkansas. Officers recovered a defaced firearm and marijuana from inside the crashed vehicle. During the arrest, Fletcher appeared unable to identify the children by name when questioned by officers. Authorities charged him with felony fleeing, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of firearm by certain persons, four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, criminal mischief, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, four counts of no child passenger restraint, reckless driving, no driver’s license, no seatbelt, and improper passing on the left.
Miracle Survival Raises Questions
The children’s survival with only minor injuries defied expectations given the severity of the crash and the infant’s ejection from the vehicle. None of the four children were properly restrained in car seats or seat belts during the chase. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about child safety during police pursuits and the dangers posed by drivers who flee from routine traffic stops with passengers in their vehicles.
