An intoxicated Ohio couple violently attacked a family of three, including a 9-year-old child, after forcing their way into the victims’ cruise ship cabin when asked to quiet down, authorities report.

Drunken Argument Turns Violent

The incident began when suspects Jacox and Hicks engaged in a loud, alcohol-fueled argument that disturbed neighboring passengers. When one victim politely requested they lower their voices, Hicks immediately confronted the family member. Jacox then approached with his cellphone, recorded the encounter, and actively encouraged Hicks to physically attack the victim, according to Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

During the assault, Jacox struck all three family members, including the child, while Hicks threw wild punches in multiple directions. Sheriff Ivey described Hicks as recklessly swinging at the victims, hoping her blows would land. The attack occurred inside the family’s own cabin after the couple barged through the door uninvited.

Injuries and Arrests

Jacox sustained an eye injury during the confrontation, though authorities cannot determine whether it came from one of the victims defending themselves or from Hicks’ uncontrolled punching. None of the three family members suffered serious injuries despite the assault. Both suspects were arrested following the incident, though authorities have not disclosed which cruise line was involved or the ship’s location at the time.

Warning to Cruise Passengers

Sheriff Ivey used the arrests to issue a stern public warning about excessive drinking and disorderly conduct. He emphasized that individuals who cannot control their alcohol consumption should not be in public spaces where they can harm innocent people, particularly children. The sheriff made clear that such behavior would not be tolerated in Brevard County, where cruise ships frequently dock at Port Canaveral.
