A church fundraiser in Columbus, Ohio descended into chaos Friday night when hundreds of teenagers transformed a peaceful community event into a scene of violence, theft, and vandalism, forcing immediate closure and resulting in 11 arrests.
Mass Brawls Force Event Shutdown
Between 500 and 800 teenagers attended the St. Catharine Catholic Church fundraiser on Friday evening when multiple fights erupted around 7 p.m. at 500 South Gould Road. Video footage captured by attendees shows two females fighting while a mob surrounded them, cheering and filming the violence with their phones. Officers from both Bexley and Columbus police departments responded with over 100 cruisers to control the crowd. Initial reports of gunshots prompted heavy law enforcement presence, though Bexley officials later confirmed no evidence of weapons was found upon investigation.
The church announced the event’s cancellation in a Facebook post Saturday, expressing great disappointment over the incident. One young attendee captured on video voiced frustration with the disruptive behavior, stating she felt embarrassed by those acting inappropriately and ruining what should have been a fun community gathering. The abrupt closure created additional problems as hundreds of teenagers struggled to find transportation, causing significant traffic congestion in the surrounding area.
Crime Spree Hits Nearby Businesses
As the church event dissolved into chaos, criminal activity spread to nearby commercial areas. Teenagers reportedly robbed the CVS Pharmacy on Main Street in Bexley during the same timeframe as the fights. Vandals also targeted a Giant Eagle grocery store on Main Street, damaging a watermelon display. Police made a handful of arrests specifically related to these theft and vandalism incidents. Bexley Mayor Ben Kessler acknowledged that a few businesses reported criminal mischief during the period, though he emphasized that most of the teenagers present were peaceful.
Community Leaders Condemn Violence
Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther issued a statement condemning the behavior and emphasizing that neighborhood events should serve as welcoming places for residents and families to gather together. The incident highlights ongoing challenges communities face when large groups of unsupervised youth congregate at public events. The 11 arrests included charges ranging from fighting to theft and vandalism. St. Catharine Catholic Church, which sits on the border between Bexley and Columbus, had organized the fundraiser to benefit community programs. The violence represents a stark departure from the event’s intended purpose of bringing neighbors together in a spirit of fellowship and charitable giving.

These kids and their parents need fined and jailed. This crap goes on because no one is punished. f a judge lets them off, arrest the judge.
word!
I thought yankees has strict leash laws in place? Another lie, from the northern heathens…..
Yes i agree that festivals are for the community to come together and enjoy a day out with that mindset, others that attend have mindset of their own,Its a shame that in order to have a good safe time we need police personnel and security personnel to keep the peace and even with that in place people act out. Its the continuing degrade of society.
Society always reacts the same. When we have individuals who lead and inspire , we have peace and prosperity. When we have individuals who cause violence and destruction, we have more violence and destruction. The only constant is, it is always the same people who lead and inspire OR cause violence and destruction. It is time we started punishing the ones who cause the violence and destruction to make examples of them to prevent future disruptioners. The two young ladies in the video get it. Why can’t the adults who are supposed to be in charge get it too??? A few jerks destroyed a weeks worth of enjoyment for thousands of people who just wanted to go to this event. Make their names and pictures public so everyone will know who destroyed a weeklong event.
