Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers raided Burnstein von Seelen Precision Castings in Abbeville on Wednesday, detaining workers on immigration violations while arresting the plant manager and human resources director. State Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the company officials were indicted by a grand jury for knowingly hiring illegal immigrants. Four additional individuals face charges for manufacturing and selling false identification documents using stolen personal information from American citizens.

The two managers appeared at Richland County Courthouse in Columbia on Thursday facing criminal conspiracy and identity fraud charges related to obtaining employment through fraudulent means. Burnstein von Seelen, a copper and brass casting manufacturer founded in 1985, operates in Abbeville County, a community of 25,000 residents located 90 miles west of Columbia near the Georgia border.
