Hundreds of teenagers on e-bikes blocked an ambulance responding to an emergency and committed numerous traffic violations during a chaotic takeover of downtown Orlando streets, prompting a police crackdown that resulted in multiple arrests.
Emergency Response Obstructed
Video footage released by the Orlando Police Department shows the moment an ambulance with lights and sirens activated was forced to stop at an intersection after the group of riders refused to yield. The riders continued crossing the street, preventing the emergency vehicle from reaching its destination. A police SUV directly behind the ambulance witnessed the entire incident, which occurred on July 18.
The obstruction of emergency services represented just one violation among many during the gathering. Police footage captured riders weaving through traffic, performing wheelies at intersections, running red lights, and blocking normal vehicle flow throughout downtown Orlando. Many riders showed complete disregard for traffic signals, continuing through intersections even after lights turned red.
Swift Police Response
Officers moved quickly to restore order and make arrests. In one striking moment captured on video, a bike-mounted police officer entered the group and arrested two e-bike riders within seconds. The footage shows dozens of other riders continuing past the arrest scene while several stopped to watch from a distance. Due to the size and mobility of the group, police acknowledged that not every rider was immediately apprehended.
Detained riders were released to their parents or guardians following the arrests. The Orlando Police Department did not disclose specific numbers regarding how many participants were detained, how many citations were issued, or how many e-bikes were towed. Officers stated they took enforcement action when it could be done safely given the circumstances.
Official Warning Issued
The police department issued a public statement making clear that such behavior would not be tolerated. Officials emphasized that downtown Orlando exists for everyone to enjoy, including kids and families, but reckless riding puts everyone at risk. The statement specifically highlighted that running red lights, blocking traffic, and preventing emergency vehicles from responding creates danger for riders themselves and the broader community. Officers pledged continued law enforcement efforts to maintain downtown safety for all residents and visitors.
This e bike situation is totally out of control. These motor e bikes should be registered and insured with licensed drivers. Enough is enough. Wake up state legislators do your job for public safety.
Nothing..bikes, cars, guns should need to be registered. They are items owned by a person, like underwear. Registration is just a Tax.
So? They are still a motorized form of transportation, and in this instance, being used in the commission of a crime. Why, I don’t know since it could cause loss of life. Mine sweepers on the beaches of Normandy used a big spinning wheel with chains that pulverized the ground. Maybe a similar type of truck could be used to lead ambulances and fire trucks.

This comes from the over exploded and misunderstood notion that ‘ Pedestrians have the right of way’. They do WHEN they are in the roadway BUT the pedestrian needs to understand that the road belongs to the automobile. We are willing to share but that does not give the pedestrian the right to walk out into traffic, walk or ride a bike in circles to hamper automobiles. The ‘right of way’ comment has Morphed into pedestrians feeling they can walk blindly with no regard for automobiles or their own preservation.

E-bikes should not be operated by ‘children’ as you call them. E-bikes are more a moped than a bicycle and should be lisenced and only operated by a lisenced driver. Period.

If in California, you build a mini-bike with a gasoline engine, it is illegal to drive it on public roads. So, electric or gas should have the same requirements for riding on the streets: 1, motorcycles class for Junior college or certified course training.
2, Age limit requirements to drive on street.
3, Same laws as all motor vehicles and motorcycles.
4, Parents should have to appear in juvenile court to get the vehicle or bike back and pay all fines, penalties and fees.
5, Community Service work should be assigned to violators and parent must serve together! No Exceptions!
