Jeremy Perrien, 45, who also served as assistant coroner and reserve sheriff’s deputy, was arrested Friday and charged with second-degree murder, domestic assault, harassment, and tampering with physical evidence.
Hidden Video Reveals Violent Attack
Investigators examining Shelby Perrien’s phone discovered a concealed video from May 2025, approximately one month before her death. The footage allegedly shows Jeremy Perrien striking his wife in the face, choking her, and punching her multiple times while threatening to kill her. Court documents reveal he threw her to the floor after punching her in the rib cage seven times during the assault.
Jeremy Perrien initially told Missouri State Highway Patrol investigators that his wife shot herself in the head while sitting in the passenger seat of his vehicle on June 29, 2025. He claimed she pulled a handgun from the console during an argument after leaving a bar together. Shelby Perrien died at a hospital shortly after the incident, which authorities initially classified as a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Evidence Tampering and Deleted Messages
Court documents show Jeremy Perrien admitted to deleting text message exchanges between himself and his wife from both of their phones. When confronted by investigators about the missing communications, he revealed the couple had been arguing extensively the night of her death.
