Fleeing Suspect BURSTS Through School Entrance

A San Diego high school principal allowed a fleeing suspect with multiple criminal convictions to enter her campus while federal immigration agents pursued him, creating what authorities called a dangerous situation that put students and staff at risk.

Principal Opens Doors During Active Pursuit

The incident unfolded on Wednesday morning around 8:30 a.m. at King Chavez High School during student drop-off. Twenty-four-year-old Arturo Gonzalez, a social media influencer, ran onto school grounds while Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers conducted a targeted enforcement operation. Video footage captured Gonzalez confronting agents near their vehicle before sprinting approximately one block to the school entrance. Principal Desi Sullivan met him at the front gate, instructed bystanders to back off, then opened the door and told Gonzalez to go inside.

Gonzalez acknowledged he had never met Sullivan before that morning. When questioned whether the suspect provided identification or explained who he was, the principal refused to comment. Gonzalez left the campus after federal agents departed the area. King Chavez operates as a charter school under San Diego Unified School District oversight, though district officials clarified it functions independently from direct district control.

Criminal History Raises Safety Questions

ICE released a statement detailing Gonzalez’s documented criminal background, which includes arrests for assault with a deadly weapon and driving under the influence. Records show a conviction for reckless driving and a 2023 restraining order issued in connection with a domestic violence case. The agency’s San Diego County office criticized the principal’s decision on social media, stating that allowing an individual with no school affiliation who was actively fleeing federal officers created unnecessary danger for children, staff, and law enforcement personnel.

Federal Warning on Interference

ICE issued a warning that anyone who interferes with federal law enforcement officers performing their official duties may face arrest. The incident sparked significant reaction from concerned parents and community members who questioned the prioritization of student safety during the confrontation. One observer noted that regardless of political perspectives on immigration enforcement, protecting children should remain the primary concern when law enforcement operations occur near school property. The case highlights ongoing tensions between sanctuary policies and federal immigration enforcement in California jurisdictions.

  1. Hopefully the Principal was fired and the suspect apprehended. Such action by a supposedly responsible person is inexcusable.

  2. The principal acknowledged that he didn’t know the illegal but allowed him in anyway, endangering everyone. He didn’t know if this was a violent criminal or not. He had absolutely no regard for the safety of the students and staff. He should not only be fired, he should faced criminal charges for aiding and abetting an illegal alien, child endangerment, interfering with ICE for starters. He now became a criminal by aiding and abetting a criminal. Maybe his own citizenship status should be checked.

  3. Any school employee especially a principal, who endangers students and staff to hide someone from police, should be fired immediately!

  4. I agree with Julie Berberan no one interfere with ice agents or law officers. she should be fired on the spot she is not protecting our students
