A fire near Portland led authorities to discover five bodies and numerous dead animals at a rural property, with the suspected killer later found dead from an apparent suicide in Washington state.

Grim Discovery at Forest Grove Property

Firefighters responding to a blaze Saturday morning in Forest Grove, Oregon—approximately 30 miles from Portland—stumbled upon five bodies at a rural residence, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The scene also contained many deceased domesticated animals. Investigators immediately launched a homicide probe into what Sheriff Caprice Massey described as an exceptionally complex crime scene requiring extensive forensic work and coordination among multiple agencies.

Sheriff Massey, a 22-year veteran of the department, told reporters Sunday that the investigation’s scope exceeded anything she had encountered during her career. “I will say that in my 22 years here, I have not been a part of or witnessed a scene quite this complex involving this type of an investigation,” Massey stated. The sheriff emphasized that the incident deeply concerned the community while authorities worked to identify victims and establish a timeline.

Suspect Identified and Found Dead

Authorities identified Benjamin Charles Parker, 36, as the primary suspect in the quintuple homicide. Property records indicate Parker lived at the Forest Grove address where firefighters discovered the bodies. Law enforcement located Parker dead inside his vehicle in Enumclaw, Washington, from what investigators believe was a self-inflicted fatal injury. The discovery effectively closed the manhunt portion of the investigation, though forensic work continues.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office stressed that investigators do not believe the murders were random acts of violence. Officials declined to release the victims’ identities pending notification of family members and completion of autopsy procedures. Authorities assured residents that no ongoing threat to public safety exists, suggesting the suspect acted alone and targeted specific individuals at the property.
