FBI FOILS Alleged UFC Terror Plot

Federal authorities arrested five individuals for plotting a drone-and-sniper attack targeting the UFC Freedom 250 event, with the alleged ringleader identified as a DACA recipient who overstayed his visa and should have been deported over two decades ago.

Immigration Status Raises Security Questions

The suspect, identified in court documents as Alvarez, entered the United States as a child on a B2 visa that expired in 2001. Despite failing to leave the country, he received deportation relief through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program in 2014. Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged a detainer following his FBI arrest in Omaha, Nebraska on the day of the planned attack.

DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis issued a statement calling Alvarez the ringleader who should never have been allowed in the country. She confirmed he will face justice and be removed from the United States upon conviction. Each defendant faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and a $250,000 fine, with an additional five years for planning violence on White House grounds.

Explosive Drone Attack Disrupted

Investigators say the group planned to use explosive-laden drones to force an evacuation from the UFC event, then open sniper fire on the fleeing crowd. Federal documents reveal Alvarez used the name Shepherd in a group chat dedicated to planning the attack. When asked about making drones with explosives, he allegedly responded, as many and as deadly as we can get, while claiming to possess a working drone.

The plotters discussed a second phase involving storming the White House gate. Their stated grievances included government corruption, handling of the Epstein files, water use at data centers, and Israeli influence over domestic politics. Officials identified 23 people connected to the alleged terror network, though only five arrests have been announced.

Event Security Under Scrutiny

Vice President JD Vance downplayed the threat level Tuesday, stating the plans were not that advanced and noting none of the suspects were in Washington during the event. This raised questions about why UFC Freedom 250 proceeded with many individuals still at large.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche emphasized that federal authorities acted quickly to disrupt the plan. UFC CEO Dana White acknowledged multiple threats against the event, calling such incidents normal stuff for high-profile gatherings. The incident adds to ongoing security concerns surrounding President Trump, who survived an assassination attempt at a 2024 Pennsylvania rally and has faced numerous subsequent threats.
