Device Causes Damage But No Injuries

Officers responded to the Lake Alhambra-area property at 10:11 a.m. Monday after residents reported an explosion. The device, initially thought to be a large firework, detonated and caused minor property damage. No injuries occurred. The Walnut Creek Police Department Bomb Squad secured the scene and collected evidence. Police have interviewed witnesses and are reviewing neighborhood surveillance footage as they pursue multiple leads. No suspect has been identified.

The attack came just one day after Antioch Police issued a public statement Sunday urging residents not to take matters into their own hands. Videos of the homeowner yelling racial slurs had generated intense online attention and mounting public backlash. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office filed misdemeanor charges for civil rights violations and simple battery. The criminal case remains pending in court.
