DC Officers SHOOT Suspect On Bus After Woman KILLED

A domestic violence incident in Northwest Washington turned deadly Tuesday morning when police fatally shot a 44-year-old man on a Metrobus moments after he allegedly murdered his former partner on a busy street in the Tenleytown neighborhood.

Fatal Confrontation on Wisconsin Avenue

Shawn Williams allegedly shot and killed 44-year-old Melissa Wallace-Pulliam in the 3600 block of Wisconsin Avenue Northwest just after 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. Wallace-Pulliam was pronounced dead at the scene. Interim Police Chief Jeffery Carroll confirmed the victim and suspect had been involved in a prior domestic relationship, though the exact nature of their connection remained unclear at the time of the incident.

Multiple witnesses observed the shooting and immediately provided police with a detailed description of the suspect. They also reported which Metrobus Williams had boarded following the attack. The suspect fled the scene on foot and boarded a northbound bus traveling on Porter Street Northwest, setting up a dramatic confrontation just blocks away.

Officers Pursue Suspect to Second Location

District police tracked the bus and stopped it at Wisconsin Avenue and Upton Street Northwest within minutes of the initial shooting. Officers began evacuating passengers when they confronted Williams onboard the vehicle. According to Carroll, police repeatedly ordered Williams to stop reaching into his bag. The suspect ignored these commands and pulled out a firearm, pointing it toward the officers.

Police opened fire when Williams brandished the weapon. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Several passengers remained on the bus during the shooting. No other injuries were reported during the confrontation. The incident marked the second domestic homicide in the district’s second police district this year involving individuals with prior relationships.

Pattern of Domestic Violence

Carroll revealed that Williams had been arrested previously in the District, including for domestic-related incidents involving the same woman he allegedly killed Tuesday. The interim chief expressed concern about recurring domestic violence cases in the area. He noted the troubling pattern of high-profile domestic incidents within the district, emphasizing the ongoing challenge law enforcement faces in preventing such tragedies despite prior interventions and arrests.
