Over 150 left-wing protesters stormed a University of California, Los Angeles law school event Tuesday night, disrupting a Department of Homeland Security attorney’s speech with profane signs, phone alarms, and chants calling the Trump administration fascist.

Organized Disruption Shuts Down Federal Official

James Percival, general counsel of the Department of Homeland Security, faced constant booing and interruptions during his talk to UCLA law students hosted by the Federalist Society chapter. Students held signs reading profanities directed at Percival, while others repeatedly yelled the word Nazi throughout his presentation. The disruption included coordinated phone alarms set off simultaneously to prevent the federal official from speaking. Most protesters walked out during the question-and-answer session, denying other students the opportunity to engage with the senior government attorney.

Matthew Weinberg, president of the UCLA Law Federalist Society and event organizer, condemned the attacks as preventing good-faith academic discussion. He told Fox News Digital that students who wanted to hear and question a senior federal official were denied that opportunity by personal attacks and organized disruption. Weinberg emphasized that conservative law students will not stay silent about such treatment when trying to host speakers at American law schools.

Radical Groups Circulate Threatening Posts

Before the event, left-wing campus organizations circulated online petitions and posts containing threatening rhetoric. By Any Means Necessary, a group calling for militant civil rights action, posted Instagram flyers claiming UCLA was giving representatives a base to organize racist ethnic cleansing. The UCLA Latine Law Students Association escalated concerns by claiming the invitation utterly disregarded student safety and legitimized racially discriminatory policies. Their statement accused ICE of stalking, kidnapping, and profiling individuals based primarily on ethnicity.

Justice Department Official Responds

Video of the disruption spread rapidly on social media after recent UCLA law graduate Yitzy Frankel posted footage. The incident caught the attention of Harmeet Dhillon, assistant attorney general for Civil Rights at the Department of Justice, who responded on social media platform X. Dhillon warned UCLA it was adding itself to the wrong list and noted that conservative campus speakers must now expect such disruption and prepare accordingly. Manhattan Institute fellow Ilya Shapiro posted that failure to discipline this behavior only encourages more of it, adding that addressing the problem is not difficult.
