Dallas police arrested three suspects connected to a viral New Year’s Eve bridge shooting that garnered worldwide attention on social media, with one suspect facing additional charges for firing at a vehicle carrying three children.
New Year’s Eve Bridge Incident
The investigation began after videos circulated globally showing individuals firing weapons from the Margaret McDermott Bridge on Interstate 30. Police recovered more than 100 shell casings from the scene near downtown Dallas. Anthony Acevedo, 20, and Jose Alarcon-Sanchez, 18, both Grand Prairie residents, were arrested and charged with discharging a firearm in certain municipalities, a Class A misdemeanor. Acevedo was released on bond, while Alarcon-Sanchez remains in custody on an immigration hold.

Investigators discovered that Alarcon-Sanchez had been arrested by Grand Prairie police for a similar offense during the early morning hours of New Year’s Day. The bridge shooting investigation led detectives to a third suspect, Anderson Derce Lara, 25, who faces more serious charges.
Road Rage Connection Uncovered
While investigating the bridge incident, authorities found evidence linking Derce Lara to a violent November road rage incident. Police say he fired multiple rounds into a vehicle occupied by three adults and three children, including a 3-year-old. ATF agents executed a search warrant and recovered several firearms, including the specific rifles seen in the viral New Year’s Eve footage. Derce Lara faces six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony, and is being held on an immigration hold.

Police Response and Community Impact
Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux emphasized the department’s commitment to public safety regardless of where perpetrators reside. He noted that while none of the suspects lived in Dallas, they chose the city for their reckless criminal activity. The chief’s statement reinforced that anyone putting lives at risk in Dallas will face thorough investigation and accountability. The case demonstrates how social media evidence can lead to successful prosecutions in firearm-related crimes that endanger public safety.

Immediately following MANDATORY CONVICTION criminals such as these should be marched directly to the gallows where they will be summarily hanged on public television.
