Boy KILLED — Woman Drives Through Youth Soccer Game

A woman drove a pickup truck through a youth soccer game at a Wichita sports complex Saturday afternoon, killing a 6-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man while injuring 10 others in a devastating incident that shattered what should have been an ordinary weekend of children’s athletics.

Tragedy Strikes Stryker Sports Complex

Emergency calls flooded 911 dispatchers shortly before 3:30 p.m. Saturday reporting a vehicle had driven through an active soccer game at Stryker Sports Complex. First responders arrived to find community members already rendering aid to victims scattered across the field. Both fatalities, residents of McPherson who were not related to each other, were pronounced dead at the scene by police and Kansas Highway Patrol officers who rushed to assist.

The injured victims included five children between ages 5 and 9, along with five adults ranging from 28 to 68 years old. Wichita Police Captain Aaron Moses told reporters the injuries varied dramatically, from minor bruises to extremely severe trauma, though all were believed to be non-life-threatening. An additional 61-year-old woman required hospitalization for non-traumatic medical issues related to the incident.

Driver Cooperating With Investigation

The 34-year-old driver from Garden City, Kansas, remained in her truck when officers arrived, accompanied by two of her own children. Police took her into custody immediately. One of her children had been scheduled to play at the complex that afternoon, though on a different field from where the crash occurred. Captain Moses stated the woman has cooperated with investigators thus far, but authorities have not determined whether the incident was intentional or accidental.

Community Reels From Senseless Loss

Wichita Mayor Lily Wu expressed heartbreak over the tragedy on her personal Facebook page, extending thoughts and prayers to affected families. Kansas Governor Laura Kelly issued a statement monitoring the situation and offering state resources to local authorities, thanking first responders for their swift action. The city immediately canceled all events at the 11-field Stryker Sports Complex, which hosts various youth athletic competitions. The Kansas State High School Activities Association suspended its flag football state championship and all scheduled matches through the weekend out of respect for victims and their families. Police requested anyone with video footage of the incident to upload it for investigative review as the probe continues.
