The deadly shooting occurred at the intersection of Rutland Road and Moor Road near Horseshoe Drive and South MacArthur Drive. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, Alexandria Police Department, Louisiana State Police, and U.S. Marshals, descended on the residential neighborhood. The FBI characterized the incident as an assault on a federal officer and has taken lead on the investigation. The suspect sustained injuries during the three-hour standoff and was transported to a local hospital under custody. Neighbors reported hearing rapid gunfire that sent them scrambling for safety. One mother, who asked not to be identified, said she heard multiple shots and immediately ordered her children to take cover. She described the gunfire as happening in quick succession, with officers retreating after the initial exchange. Louis Means, a cashier at nearby Tobacco Plus, said the massive law enforcement presence made it impossible to focus on work. Multiple residents said they knew the suspect, who lived just houses away from the shooting scene, and expressed shock at the violence.
Community Calls for End to Violence
The deadly encounter has left Alexandria residents questioning their safety. Mohammed Gazawaneh expressed frustration with ongoing violence plaguing the city, calling for community unity to address the problem. Louisiana State Representative Ed Larvadain III extended condolences to the fallen officer’s family and coworkers, asking for prayers during their bereavement. The FBI office in New Orleans continues investigating the assault on the federal officer, while Louisiana State Police examine potential state law violations. Authorities emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the public following the suspect’s apprehension.
