Teacher WALKS Cops Through Classroom — Then Gets ARRESTED

A married Florida high school teacher was arrested after police bodycam footage captured her walking officers through her classroom, pointing out specific desks where she engaged in illegal sexual activity with a 17-year-old student. The graphic confession reveals disturbing details about how the relationship developed and ultimately led to criminal charges.

Teacher Confesses During Police Walkthrough

Heather Mashburn-Smith, 37, calmly guided Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputies through her Port Charlotte High School classroom in late April, indicating where she had sex with the underage teen. The teacher initially pointed to one set of desks before correcting herself, stating she was “pretty sure” about different ones. She described explicit details about positions and directions they faced during the encounters, including how she was on top of the student as he sat in a chair, leaning back against a desk.

The bodycam footage, recently obtained by Law and Crime, shows Mashburn-Smith explaining how she facilitated the encounters by leaving a crack in the side door so the teen could enter after football practice. Other times, she would let him in after he knocked. The teacher told officers the encounters were not premeditated, claiming they would hug and talk before any sexual activity occurred.

Relationship Started on Social Media

Court documents reveal the inappropriate relationship began when the student called Mashburn-Smith “pretty” on Snapchat, leading to flirting between the pair. The teen started making extra visits to her classroom where they eventually kissed and had intercourse at least twice. The married teacher complained to the student about her marriage and told him she wanted to leave her husband for him when he turned 18, the legal age of consent in Florida.

The declarations concerned the teenager, who stopped communicating and blocked his teacher. Mashburn-Smith continued messaging him on Snapchat despite being blocked. When questioned by police, she admitted she “made a mistake” and acknowledged the student was “just a teenager,” but said he made her feel desired. The April 29 bodycam footage ends with Mashburn-Smith being handcuffed and taken to the police station.

Serious Charges and Consequences

Mashburn-Smith faces charges of unlawful sexual activity with minors, which carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison. She was immediately suspended from her teaching position at Port Charlotte High School. The case highlights ongoing concerns about teacher-student boundaries and the exploitation of positions of authority. Florida law sets the age of consent at 18, making any sexual activity between the teacher and 17-year-old student illegal regardless of perceived consent. The investigation continues as prosecutors prepare their case against the former educator.
