A concealed carry license holder shot an armed suspect during an attempted robbery at an Orland Park gas station Tuesday morning, with surveillance footage capturing the dramatic confrontation that ended with the masked suspect wounded and fleeing the scene.

Armed Confrontation at the Pump

Orland Park police responded to the Shell gas station at Harlem Avenue and 151st Street around 9 a.m. Tuesday after reports of shots fired. Security cameras at the family-owned station recorded a masked individual approaching a customer pumping gas before pulling out what appeared to be a handgun. Within seconds, the customer drew his own weapon from his waistband and fired at least two shots at the would-be robber, striking him.

Naseem Elmosa, whose family owns the gas station, reviewed the surveillance footage showing the entire incident unfold in moments. The masked suspect dropped his weapon immediately after being shot and limped away from the scene. Orland Park police confirmed the customer who fired the shots holds a valid Illinois Concealed-Carry License and is cooperating with investigators.

Suspect Located and Hospitalized

Additional security camera angles captured the wounded suspect fleeing the gas station on foot. Authorities located him shortly after the shooting and transported him to a local hospital for treatment of his gunshot injuries. The customer who defended himself remained unharmed during the confrontation. Police have not yet released the identities of either individual involved in the incident or indicated whether criminal charges will be filed.

Elmosa expressed mixed feelings about the violent encounter at his family’s business. He noted that while he would have preferred the customer simply surrender his vehicle to avoid violence, the armed customer’s quick response may have prevented a more serious crime. The family has never experienced such an incident at their station before, and the brazen daytime robbery attempt has shaken the community.
