Referee SEIZES As Match KEEPS GOING

A referee’s planned wrestling stunt turned into a genuine medical emergency Thursday night when Dallas Edwards began convulsing on the mat after a collision during an Ohio Valley Wrestling broadcast, forcing the promotion to halt its show mid-match.

Planned Scene Becomes Real Emergency

Edwards collapsed after wrestler Brendan Balling jumped from the top rope and collided with him at the Louisville venue. Another wrestler, Tony Evans, had pulled Edwards into position for the landing before scrambling away. What followed shocked viewers as Edwards started convulsing while the match continued around him. Evans even dragged the stricken referee to the side of the ring as other wrestlers kept performing, unaware of the severity of the situation.

Broadcast announcers initially treated the incident as part of the show. One commentator remarked that Dallas was not having a good night, while the camera remained focused on the action. The tone shifted dramatically once officials recognized Edwards needed immediate medical attention. The broadcast abruptly ended with announcers telling viewers they would see them Sunday at March Mayhem before cutting the feed.

Promotion Confirms Medical Crisis

Ohio Valley Wrestling released a statement Friday confirming Edwards experienced a medical emergency during the live event. The promotion emphasized that Edwards is now alert and doing much better. The statement stressed that OVW takes performer safety extremely seriously and expressed distress over injuries to its wrestlers and staff. The crowd at Hotpoint Davis Arena began cheering for Edwards once they realized the situation was genuine, not scripted entertainment.

Wrestling Safety Under Scrutiny

The incident drew criticism when OVW promoter Al Snow, who wrestled for WWE from 1995 to 2008, made what fans considered an inappropriate joke on social media. Wrestling enthusiasts noted the poor timing given Snow’s previous criticism of competitor All Elite Wrestling for unsafe practices. Ohio Valley Wrestling served as WWE’s primary training ground from 2000 to 2008, developing major stars including Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, Batista, and CM Punk. WWE ended the partnership in February 2008, shifting developmental operations to Florida Championship Wrestling, which eventually became the modern NXT brand. OVW plans to proceed with Sunday’s March Mayhem event at the same Louisville arena.
