Police FIND Blindfolded Students in Fraternity Basement

Disturbing video footage reveals police discovering 56 blindfolded college students covered in food during a hazing incident at the University of Iowa’s Alpha Delta Phi fraternity house in November 2024.

Police Discover Basement Hazing Scene

On November 15, 2024, Iowa City and University of Iowa police responded to a fire alarm at the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity house. Officers found pledges blindfolded in the basement with food thrown on them during what authorities described as a hazing ritual. The recently released body camera footage shows shirtless young men standing together, covered in various substances, while officers demanded answers about the disturbing scene.

In the video, an officer asks the group: “Does anyone want to be forthcoming about what’s going on? Anyone? Because you gotta see it from my perspective of, what did I just walk into?” The students refused to cooperate or evacuate despite multiple police commands. Officers later spoke with the fraternity president, who described the incident as their “lead up to initiation” and “a ritual where they’re blindfolded and get messed with.”

University Takes Swift Action

The University of Iowa placed Alpha Delta Phi under interim suspension within 24 hours of the incident. By May 2025, the fraternity received a formal four-year suspension, with the earliest possible reinstatement date of July 1, 2029. Joseph Gaya, a 21-year-old former fraternity member who was not enrolled at the university during the incident, faced charges for interference with official acts, though prosecutors later dropped the charges.

Ongoing Hazing Crisis in American Universities

This incident highlights the persistent problem of dangerous hazing practices across American college campuses. According to researcher Hank Nuwer’s database, at least one school hazing death has occurred every year from 1959 through 2026. Hazing involves activities that humiliate, degrade, abuse, or endanger individuals joining groups, regardless of their willingness to participate. The Iowa footage, which gained 2.6 million views on social media, serves as stark evidence of how these illegal practices continue despite increased awareness and consequences.

  1. HAZING BECOMES TORTURE WHEN YOU TAKE AWAY SOMEONE’S DIGNITY. WHAT HAPPENED TO GOOD CLEAN FUN?
THOSE WHO THOUGHT UP THIS STUNT NEED TO BE PUNISHED. DISGRACEFUL.
