A city zoning board member in Mentor, Ohio resigned after video footage captured her shouting a racial slur at her Black neighbor during a dispute over yard markers, marking the second time controversial remarks have forced her from public positions.
Caught on Camera During Yard Dispute
Kathy Miller, 70, confronted her neighbor while removing stakes from his front yard on May 4. Wearing pajamas and slippers, she directed profanity and a racial slur at the man as he filmed the encounter. When the resident warned that the video would circulate, Miller initially walked away but returned moments later, demanding he delete the recording. He refused, and the footage quickly spread across social media platforms, reaching city officials within hours.
Kathy Miller was Chair of Trump Campaign in Mahoning County, Ohio.
She also served as a Republican city official in Mentor.
“You can go F yourself you damn [N-word]” she’s caught on
Miller served on Mentor’s Board of Building and Zoning Appeals since May 2023, a volunteer position that paid $50 per meeting attended. Public records obtained by WKYC3 showed she received 31 payments totaling $1,550 through April 2026. She also signed employee policies, including harassment guidelines. The City of Mentor issued a statement calling her behavior indefensible and confirming swift removal proceedings.
Pattern of Controversial Statements
This marks Miller’s second forced resignation from public roles. In 2016, she served as Mahoning County campaign chair for Donald Trump but resigned after inflammatory remarks to The Guardian. She claimed racism did not exist until Barack Obama’s presidency and criticized Black Americans for lack of success over the past 50 years. She also dismissed the Black Lives Matter movement as a waste of time. Those comments triggered national backlash and ended her campaign involvement.
Community Response and Context
Online commenters alleged this was not an isolated incident, with neighbors claiming Miller had used racial slurs in previous encounters. The city of Mentor, where 90 percent of residents are white, faced similar controversy in 2024 when former councilman Scott Marn used a racial slur during a parking lot dispute but refused to resign despite formal council requests. Mentor residents responding on the city’s official Facebook page praised officials for quick action against Miller, with one stating there is no room for such behavior in 2026.

Didn’t we learn at a young age “sticks & stones can break my bones, but worde can never hurt me”?
No because that is not true. So you think people should be able to say racially degrading things to black people and get away with it? Well they shouldn’t. Enough is enough ! It’s foolish to try and hurt people just because they look different than you. All humans want to live, love and enjoy the life that GOD has given them, take care of their families, put food on their table and maintain a roof over their heads in luxury. Just so you know black people love being who they are and how they look. We celebrate our being every day all day.
the only way you get “offended” is IF the free speech or another is TRUE. You can call me a “honky”, “red neck” “cracker” or “hill billy”. You can call me a N1663R if you want. I don’t care. I’m not a N1663R R U ?
Agree with your basic premise. There shouldn’t be imprisonment for hurtful speech by reason of the First Amendment, but it has consequences. An example is slander. You can say whatever you want about someone but if not true, you pay the consequences in damages. Same with epithets of any variety. You publicly state your views, you can lose your job over it.
that’s all well as long as they keep racial comments to themself also we all need t get along.
I’ve been called honky, cracker and other names by blacks. Didn’t hurt me and I’m here today doing just fine.
Exactly!
Nursery rhymes are not rules to live by.
adult children should NOT be allowed to drive, IF they can’t stay in their lane…. GFY! get a job
What if that lady had called her neighbor a Black Nazi or Uncle Tom? Would she have had to resign. Probably NOT!
I love the first comment: “MAGA grandma”. I don’t know any of my friends that use racial slurs?
so we admit, FREE speech is NOT PROTECTED? when IT is White people? HIPPO CRITES ! N1663RS !
Faux sensitivity and idiocy outrage eminates from entitlement. When your arrogance makes you feel superior to someone, no matter what the roles or race; then violence becomes a solution. It is better said ( and internalized ) to –
” live and let die ” karma will handle the details.
Why is it that every time someone does something stupid who is/was a Trump supporter his name always has to be invoked when he had nothing to do with the incident? That puts the media in the same class as the perpetrator and quickly exposes the media’s political bias.
I agree!
1) She is a city zoning board member.
2) She confronted her neighbor while removing stakes from his front yard.
3) There shouldn’t be ANY name-calling, by ANYONE.
4) She holds a public office; her actions are automatically more public.
5) This isn’t a “simple” case of every time someone does something considered offensive or stupid, it needs to be construed into a political bias or attack. But, hopefully, we hold those in higher office to a high(er) standard.
6) How about we not defend poor behavior, but instead learn to support or affirm best behavior.
7) Adults should be able to manage and model that,
socialist, corrupt, karen judges are letting repeat offenders OUT of jail. WHY when they commit another crime, are NOT BOTH standing in court to explain their actions? WHY? AMSWER: socialism (NO democracy, NO republic) corruption!
No matter what political views you have if you are a representative for the people you should represent yourself with dignity.
Congress has many let speak such vulgar words while making threats towards others to rile up violence. If politicians in congress are supposed to set an example what would you expect from others in lower positions
What did she do wrong?
