Los Angeles public school teachers are using their personal time to patrol neighborhoods around schools, searching for federal immigration agents and warning illegal immigrants to help them evade law enforcement. The taxpayer-funded educators claim they’re keeping students safe, but critics question why teachers are actively working to undermine federal immigration enforcement.
Teachers Hunt Federal Agents Near Schools
Lupe Carrasco Cardona, an ethics teacher at Los Angeles Unified School District, leads patrols for the activist group Union del Barrio. She took CBS cameras on a ride-along near the Edward R. Roybal Learning Center in downtown Los Angeles, where she and fellow educators searched for Immigration and Customs Enforcement vehicles. The group looks for cars with tinted windows or double-parked vehicles, responding to tips from community members about possible federal activity in the area.
During the filmed patrol, Cardona spotted a Ford Explorer and instructed her colleague to photograph it. The vehicle turned out to belong to a regular citizen, not ICE agents. Despite finding no federal agents during the ride-along, Cardona insisted the patrols serve an important purpose by alerting the community to law enforcement presence.
Union Officials Praise The Effort
Jon Paul Arciniega, chapter chair for United Teachers Los Angeles, defended the patrol activities outside school gates. He called it beautiful to witness teachers devoting personal time to watching neighborhoods and ensuring safety. Arciniega claimed the patrols benefit students and families by showing teachers care about them. Cardona maintained that her group does not engage with or intercept ICE agents, only reports their presence to community members who allegedly plan their daily activities around these alerts.
Backlash Over Taxpayer-Funded Activism
Social media erupted with criticism over the patrols. Conservative commentators questioned why taxpayer-funded educators would help illegal immigrants evade federal law enforcement. Critics pointed out that if teachers have time for these patrols, perhaps they should focus on actual crime affecting neighborhoods. The controversy comes as LAUSD faces severe financial trouble. The nation’s second-largest school district could run out of money by 2027, with cuts and layoffs looming. LA County’s education superintendent issued a rare warning in July that the district may not meet its financial obligations during the 2027-28 and 2028-29 school years.
Maybe they should try teaching instead of protecting illegals. This is beyond ridiculous!!! But then, it is California!!!

So Called “Teachers” hiding behind “Activist Labels”, “Union Supporters” should NOT be “Patrolling Neighborhoods” to ALERT Illegal Aliens of the Presence of “ICE” or any other Law Enforcement Officials. IF these Teachers have so much time on their hands, Perhaps they should be Teaching the Students, Tutoring those who need it to Pass Standard Proficiency Tests Instead of being LEFTIST Activists. Teachers Union Officials should be Sued by Taxpayers for allowing Corruption of the Job of the Teachers instead of Praising LEFTIST Activities and Socialist / Communist Ideology and Agendas. Oh the School System Doesn’t have enough money for the 2027 School Year? Really? Where did they PISS the Money Away on what? Anti American Socialist Studies and Activities Promoting Illegal Aliens? Perhaps Those Officials and Teachers should be FIRED and Standard PRO American Teachers Hired to Teach what is Necessary to Succeed instead of Useless Propaganda.
Agree. We hope and pray that the USA gets its moral compass back, children learn to read, write and do math – right is still right and wrong is still wrong and it doesn’t get muddied up by some teacher with a political agenda of his/her own. I know in the very middle of the country there was a college level class teacher who came down hard and ugly on a student who couldn’t sit silent while the “adult” in the room’s English lesson was that there are either 16 or 18 different genders within the human race.
Fire those teachers, and the school board members that support this waste of tax payer dollars. The teachers deserve to be shot.

The LA Unified School District should face a Federal Litigation for non compliance to the basic teaching methods of American Student Citizens including the Children! The Teachers Union should also be included in the Law Suit. The Litigations should also include the Professional Teaching staff and Administrators to all of the American Universities like UCLA, USC, Stanford, Cal State Berkley, Cal State San Marcos, Harvard, Columbia University Princeton and Yale as well as many other Universities and Colleges across America! I am sick and tired of our education system going down the drain because of the Communist, Leftist Liberals, ANTIFA, BLM, including all of the Muslims that are pushing the extremist issues against Student of the Jewish Faith as well as the Christian Students. These people are pushing extremist violence in all of our Scholastic institutions. In addition the DOJ should also take immediate Litigation directed towards George Soros and his son immediately for funding violence throughout America!

Ethics teacher without any. Photographing private citizens because they don’t know the difference. Stalking. Spreading misinformation. Hope they get sued and thrown in jail. No wonder funds are running out. California is no longer a place most Americans want to go.
If I harbor a criminal I go to jail. Illegal immigrants break the law. Why aren’t governors of sanctuary states arrested for harboring criminals. It should start at the lowest levels including unions, cities, counties, states etc. WHY WHY WHY is ok for them to break the law with no punishment?

Bottom line here. Our lower grade schools are a universal joke because of the poor performance of our educational system. We used to be a nation where foreign citizens wanted to enroll their children in our superior schools. That has changed. Less then 30% of our lower grade students can pass a proficiency test that includes basic 1970-80 standard reading, writing and math. We now teach to the lowest level of competency while those who actually want an education beyond grade school have to hire tutors or go to a charter school. Needless to say, not many of our inner city families can afford tutors or charter schools. This bunch of idiots looking for ICE are only looking for political fame and do not give a damn about their students. Prove me wrong by demanding to see their students’ scholastically failing records and then ask them why they are roaming the streets instead of holding special sessions for their failing students. I know because we had to hire tutors to help our own children in basic math when the school failed us.
Everyone of these teachers that are assisting illegals should be terminated along with school superintendent or anyone else in authority that condones and tolerates these shenanigans, Most likely these are failing schools since the teachers are more interested in activism than teaching as their profession. Of course, the lunatics in CA are always a half bubble off and anything goes, yet they always want more federal dollars and tax dollars for this garbage and they get it.
