Convicted Killer LOSES IT After 50 YEAR SENTENCE

A convicted murderer punched his 65-year-old court-appointed attorney in the face moments after a judge sentenced him to 50 years in prison, according to court documents from Harris County, Texas.

Violent Courtroom Assault

Jaquarius Lewis, 27, struck attorney John Petruzzi immediately after receiving his sentence on Tuesday for the April 2024 murder of Quincy Jermaine Johnson. Lewis now faces an additional charge of causing bodily injury to an individual 65 years or older, court records reveal. The attack occurred in front of court officials as Lewis was being sentenced to confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Institutional Division.

Lewis had waived his right to a jury trial and pleaded guilty to murder on January 21, accepting responsibility for shooting Johnson while he stood on a balcony in northeast Houston. Prosecutors alleged Lewis was one of two suspects in the fatal shooting. Despite entering his guilty plea in January, the court delayed sentencing until this week, when the violent courtroom incident unfolded.

Prior Attempt to Remove Attorney

Court records show Lewis filed a motion on December 26, 2025, requesting the dismissal of Petruzzi as his court-appointed attorney and asking for different legal representation. No record exists showing the judge responded to Lewis’s request for new counsel. The relationship between Lewis and his attorney apparently deteriorated in the months leading up to sentencing, culminating in Tuesday’s physical attack. Authorities have not disclosed whether Lewis will face additional prison time for assaulting his attorney.

Legal Consequences Mounting

The assault charge against an elderly individual carries significant penalties under Texas law, potentially adding years to Lewis’s existing half-century sentence. Texas statutes provide enhanced protection for victims over 65, recognizing their vulnerability to physical harm. The incident highlights the dangers faced by court-appointed attorneys who represent violent offenders, often under strained circumstances. Lewis remains in custody as prosecutors determine whether to pursue maximum penalties for the courtroom assault alongside his murder conviction.
