A retired Army staff sergeant was fatally shot during a dispute over a Walmart parking space in North Lauderdale, Florida, leaving his daughter devastated just months after they reconciled following years of estrangement.

Fatal Confrontation Captured on Video

Bart Diguglielmo, 62, a New Jersey native and retired staff sergeant with the United States Army, died Tuesday afternoon after a female shopper shot him outside the North Lauderdale Walmart. Chilling video footage captured the confrontation, showing Diguglielmo arguing with an unidentified woman who suddenly drew a handgun and fired. The veteran clutched his stomach and collapsed to the ground as witnesses reported the shooter continued yelling at him while he bled on the pavement.

Emergency responders rushed Diguglielmo from his current residence in Lauderhill to Broward Health Medical Center, where doctors pronounced him dead. The shooter remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement during questioning. She claimed she fired in self-defense, and authorities have not yet determined whether criminal charges will be filed against her.

Daughter Defends Father’s Character

Amanda Diguglielmo spoke through tears about her father’s death, rejecting suggestions that he behaved inappropriately toward the woman. “I heard one news site say it was over a parking spot. Another says it was because my dad was making some type of advance towards the woman, which I will completely debunk because my dad is not that person,” she told Local 10. The grieving daughter acknowledged her father was not perfect and revealed they had only recently repaired their relationship after many years apart. Despite their complicated history, she insisted he would never threaten a woman to the point where deadly force became necessary.

“I just don’t think anybody deserved to lose their life over a parking spot,” Amanda said. “He was a good man.” She explained that she felt hesitant to speak publicly but wanted to ensure her father was remembered accurately rather than through distorted media portrayals. Originally from Hammonton, New Jersey, Diguglielmo had relocated to South Florida.

Broward County detectives continue examining whether the shooting constitutes justifiable self-defense under Florida law. Authorities have not released the woman’s identity or indicated a timeline for charging decisions.
