California police departments are racing to prevent organized teen takeovers at multiple Southern California locations this weekend, including the historic Knott’s Berry Farm amusement park, following a chaotic Independence Day incident that resulted in over 400 arrests at Newport Beach.
Knott’s Berry Farm Under Threat
Buena Park police issued a public warning after discovering plans for an unsanctioned teen gathering at Knott’s Berry Farm as early as Saturday. The department announced on Facebook that officers have identified individuals involved in organizing the unauthorized event and are coordinating with park officials and public safety partners. Law enforcement promised an increased presence at the Old West-themed park and vowed to take enforcement action against anyone engaging in criminal or disruptive behavior. The department emphasized that community safety, park guests, and employee protection remain their highest priority.
Newport Beach Chaos Sets Precedent
The threatened takeover follows the July Fourth Newport Beach incident, where more than 400 people were arrested during what became known as a TikTok Takeover. Video footage captured aerial fireworks exploding at close range near crowds, individuals throwing explosives into packed groups of people, and widespread looting at a Pavilions grocery store. One clip showed someone wearing a Spider-Man mask climbing a traffic signal while leading USA chants. Police recovered broken street signs carried by participants throughout the chaotic event.
Multiple Locations Targeted
Huntington Beach police are simultaneously working to prevent another planned beach takeover scheduled for Saturday. After organizers distributed flyers advertising a Beach Bash event, the Huntington Beach Police Department Special Investigations Bureau identified individuals believed to be involved in promoting the gathering. Officers warned that organizers and participants could face charges including incitement to riot, vandalism, theft, assault, reckless driving, unlawful assembly, and conspiracy. The department publicly thanked organizers for the flyer, noting they had already seen it and begun investigations.
Park History Forces Policy Changes
Knott’s Berry Farm previously dealt with disruptive teen behavior, prompting management to implement a strict chaperone policy in 2023. The rule requires anyone 15 years old or younger to be accompanied by an adult at least 21 years old to enter or remain in the park after 4 p.m. Minors found in the park without proper supervision face immediate removal. The policy reflects ongoing challenges California attractions face with unauthorized youth gatherings that threaten public safety and property.
