A road rage confrontation in Orlando escalated into a violent rampage that left a pregnant driver, an elderly Good Samaritan, and a police officer injured after a woman allegedly jumped onto a vehicle’s hood, forced open doors, and attacked multiple victims in broad daylight.
Violent Confrontation Unfolds on Orlando Boulevard
Orlando Police responded to Millenia Boulevard and Millenia Plaza Way on February 23 after reports of a battery linked to a traffic dispute. The incident began when a driver honked at another vehicle that repeatedly stopped short and blocked traffic. The victim, who was pregnant and had a child in her Kia Carnival, became the target of 37-year-old Mandolyn Shaffer-Brockwell, who allegedly exited her vehicle, jumped onto the hood, forced open the driver’s door, and began striking the woman inside.
Police video appears to show the suspect cutting across traffic before rushing toward the victim’s vehicle. What started as a traffic dispute quickly transformed into an alleged assault involving multiple victims. A 68-year-old woman witnessed the attack and attempted to intervene, but investigators say she was also assaulted and suffered visible facial injuries, including scratches. The violence extended beyond the initial confrontation, turning a busy intersection into the scene of multiple alleged crimes.
Officer Bitten During Arrest Struggle
Officers located Shaffer-Brockwell based on witness descriptions shortly after the incident. When police attempted to detain her, she allegedly refused to comply and violently resisted arrest. Body camera footage released by the Orlando Police Department appears to show the struggle escalating as officers worked to gain control. During the confrontation, authorities say Shaffer-Brockwell bit one of the officers before she was eventually taken into custody and transported to jail.
Multiple Serious Charges Filed
Shaffer-Brockwell faces several charges including battery on a person 65 years or older, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, burglary of a conveyance with assault or battery, and resisting an officer with violence. The combination of alleged victims, video evidence, and the escalation from a traffic dispute to violent attacks distinguishes this case from typical road rage incidents. Law enforcement officials emphasize the importance of defensive driving and avoiding engagement with aggressive drivers. Creating distance and contacting authorities remains the safest response when encountering erratic behavior on the road.
