A British woman visiting her father in Texas died from a gunshot wound following a heated political argument about President Trump, with a grand jury declining to pursue criminal charges against the father.
The Fatal Incident
Lucy Harrison, 23, from Warrington, England, was shot in the chest on January 10, 2025, at her father’s home in Prosper, Texas, near Dallas. Her boyfriend, Sam Littler, testified at a coroner’s inquest that the young woman had argued with her father, Kris Harrison, about Trump on the morning of the shooting. The argument escalated when Lucy asked her father how he would feel if she were sexually assaulted, to which he replied it wouldn’t upset him much since he had two other daughters.
After the argument, Lucy became upset and went upstairs. Later that day, approximately thirty minutes before they were scheduled to leave for the airport, Kris Harrison led his daughter into his bedroom to show her his Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun. According to his statement, Harrison lifted the weapon to display it when a loud bang occurred, and Lucy immediately fell to the floor.
Alcohol and Gun Ownership
The inquest revealed that Kris Harrison had consumed about 500 ml of white wine on the day of the shooting, marking a relapse in his battle with alcohol addiction. Police officers detected alcohol on his breath when they arrived at the scene. CCTV footage confirmed he purchased two bottles of wine from a convenience store that afternoon. Harrison stated he bought the handgun for family security and denied discussing it with his daughter previously.
Legal Proceedings
Texas authorities investigated the death as possible manslaughter, but a Collin County grand jury declined to indict Kris Harrison. The coroner’s inquest in Cheshire, England, proceeded despite Harrison’s legal team attempting to have the coroner removed from the case, claiming bias. Harrison did not attend the inquest but provided a written statement. His attorney argued the proceedings resembled a criminal investigation rather than a fact-finding inquiry, but the coroner rejected the recusal application.
