American automotive giant Ford has issued a massive recall affecting over 148,000 vehicles due to critical safety defects that could leave drivers with failing brakes or stalled engines. The recall targets popular American-made trucks and SUVs, including the F-150, Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator models, raising concerns about vehicle reliability as Ford scrambles to fix potentially dangerous issues.
Ford Trucks Face Major Brake System Defects
The most significant portion of the recall involves more than 123,000 Ford F-150 pickups, Expeditions, and Lincoln Navigators from model years 2017 through 2018. These vehicles have a serious defect in the brake master cylinder that may allow brake fluid to leak internally, potentially reducing braking performance and increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford’s latest recall adds to a troubling series of quality control issues that have plagued American automakers in recent years. The brake system defect is particularly concerning as it could leave drivers unable to stop their vehicles properly, creating dangerous situations on highways and potentially putting families at risk.
New Explorer Models Facing Dangerous Engine Stalling
The second recall targets 24,655 of the brand-new 2025 Ford Explorer SUVs due to a serious software problem in the powertrain control module. This defect may cause the module to reset unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion, potentially resulting in engine stalling or damage to the park system.

Dealers will provide free repairs for all affected vehicles, including replacing the brake master cylinder or brake booster for the trucks and SUVs in the first recall group. For the 2025 Explorers, technicians will update the powertrain control module software to prevent the unexpected resets that could leave drivers stranded on busy roads.
Owners Left Waiting for Repairs
Ford has announced that official notification letters will be sent to all owners of affected vehicles by May 26, 2025. Until then, owners are left to wonder if their vehicles might experience these potentially dangerous defects while driving.
“Dealers are expected to replace the affected parts like the master cylinder or the brake booster, free of charge, the U.S. auto safety regulator said.”
A smaller recall affecting 1,168 of the 2024 Ranger and Lincoln Nautilus vehicles has also been announced for window safety compliance issues. These vehicles have windows that may not automatically reverse when detecting an object, putting them in violation of federal safety standards and creating another potential hazard for American families.
